Mixed media: photography combined with digital drawing

In 2016, my works Ferdinand II., Verfremdung I., and Verfremdung II. were part of a collaboration with Schloss Ambras Innsbruck and curator Katharina Seidl. Inspired by the historical Ambraser collections of Archduke Ferdinand II., these pieces explore the interplay between identity, cultural displacement, and making meaning.

Using mixed media, photography combined with digital drawing to re draw it in this digital works I engaged with the dynamic interactions between the “foreign” and the “familiar,” offering a contemporary perspective on centuries-old narratives. Through visual composition and symbolism, the works invite viewers to critically examine their own perceptions of history, identity, and cultural boundaries.

The works were presented in a group exhibition alongside artists Yamen Hamid, Safa Abou Hatab, Anees Majeed, and musician George Naser.

I was invited to contribute to the exhibition as part of a group of artists, many of whom, including myself, had recently arrived in Austria as refugees, forced migration or due to global events. The exhibition featured artists with a migration background and was curated by Katharina Seidl. It emphasized reflections on cultural encounters, displacement, and identity within the historical context of Schloss Ambras and its collections.

This exhibition was highlighted in the 2016 annual reports of both Schloss Ambras Innsbruck and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, underscoring its significance in fostering cultural dialogue and showcasing contemporary art within historical settings check Jahresbericht 2016 here
